Peek-a-Pooh
It is very difficult to walk by one without checking to see if I have quarters.
The summer before I moved to SF, I went to Japan with my family and one afternoon in Nara my family and I spent a long time (felt like at least 3o mins) getting toys out of the vending machines. The low-risk suspense combined with an undeniably cute outcome (killer whale pooh, come ON) is a perfect diversion when you're strolling through a neighborhood.
My favorite peek-a-pooh machines in the bay:
West Portal, in front of the toy store
Clement Street, in the chinese kitchen supply store
Webster St., in Downtown Oakland
24th Street, off Harrison
