Zeitgeist & Book Club

I met these girls 12 year ago in the first few weeks as a Freshman at Vassar. We were all from California and had a very memorable picnic on the Vassar Farm, but then drifted into different social circles. After years of choosing completely different paths, we found each other again and started reading books we had never gotten to (Woolf, Faulkner, McCarthy, Didion).

These girls are whip smart and yet there is something casual about the pacing & organization of the 'club.' Because it's the three of us, we often went from discussing literature to discussing oneself. Thus, each member is irreplaceable.

Zeitgeist, well, it's Zeitgeist -- I have faith that when I visit it will remain unchanged, ironically. Smell of roasting potatoes, pot and spilled beer. Port-o-potties. Bearded biker guys bullying the hipsters. Standing room only on a sunny Friday at Happy hour. Tamale lady. Yes, yes, I seemed to get into squabbles with exes here. . . . Nonetheless, in moderation, I can appreciate it.
